Ssimbwa told kpl.co.ke that after the first leg matches if he was to be in, say, position four, he would be confident of fighting for this year’s SportPesa Premier League since he plans to make good signings in the June transfer window to bolster his squad.

He admitted that although his team has gone unbeaten in their last seven matches, they still don’t have depth to go all the way considering the vagaries of a title chase.

“We now have a sponsor so we are at liberty to make good signings unlike in January when we were limited in terms of spending. I feel like we need players with speed in the squad. We also need to have cover in crucial position. The league race in not a joke and anything can happen.

“Remember also that I wasn’t able to make signings in January because I came in at the tail end of the transfer window so it is a good chance for me to bring in a few young players. As you know, I like grooming youthful players so hopefully that will happen in June.

“We need about two young strikers and one attacking midfielder so that we can have a good blend of young players and the experienced ones that we already have. We shall address that in June,” said Ssimbwa, a former coach of Kampala City Council Authority.

“Key for me, however, is to be placed within the top four positions in June. If that happens I can assure you Sofapaka will be up there in November fighting for the title,” he said boldly.

Sofapaka are currently sitting on third position in the SPL log with 15 points having won six of their eight games so far.

The only game they lost was their league opener against Sony Sugar away in March.

Their Premier League veterans signed for this season notably ever green Charles Okwembah, Moses “Dube” Odhiambo and Humphrey Okoti have been prominent for Batoto ba Mungu this season.
