League leaders Gor Mahia were the only winners of the day Wednesday after they edged out hard-fighting Sofapaka in Kisumu as the duel between Mathare United and AFC Leopards at MISC and Ulinzi Stars versus Thika at Afraha ended all barren.

K’Ogalo beat Sofapaka 2-1 but were made to work hard for this precious win that solidified their lead atop the league table. Harambee Stars returnee George Odhiambo was fast and first on the score sheets, his goal in the seventh minute giving Gor Mahia an early lead.

Sharp shooting Umaru Kasumba levelled matters for Sofapaka in the 44th minute after being set up Rodgers Aloro. The goal increased Kasumba’s tally to 10, one short of the league’s top scorer Stephen Waruru of Ulinzi.

Pressing hard Gor Mahia won a penalty but by Jacques Tuyisenge could not put away the dead ball on 58 minutes. It did not matter as Medie Kagere duly restored K’Ogalo’s lead in the 63rd minute with his ninth goal of the season.

At Afraha stadium, Daniel Waweru, Brian Birgen and lanky Oscar Wamalwa squandered opportunities for the soldiers in a duel they may feel they should have come out on top.

At Kasarani, AFC Leopards literally held on to dear life to survive the onslaught of Mathare in this scoreless duel.
