Bandari crushed relegation bound Muhoroni Youth in the highest scoring match of the season as their striker Edwin Lavatsa plundered four while champions in waiting Gor Mahia continued to thrive late, late in the season in Wednesday’s matches.
Muhoroni Youth 2-6 Bandari (Muhoroni)
Internationally capped Edwin Lavatsa scored four goals as Anthony Wambani and Baron Oketch added one each to power the visiting dockers to the biggest win of the season.
Ambrose Ayoyi and Anthony Otuoma scored for Muhoroni who are to all purpose and intents headed for relegation.
Nakumatt 1-1 Zoo (Ruaraka)
Nakumatt went ahead with former Tusker midfielder Joshua Oyoo’s finish in the 35th minute after intercepting a back pass from Zoo Kericho captain Johnson Ligare.
Second half replacement Kepha Ondati however restored parity for Zoo in stoppage time.
Chemelil Sugar 1-1 Tusker (Chemelil)
Tusker, who were looking to consolidate their position in second place, went one up in the 45th minute when lanky midfielder Humphrey Mieno pounced on a poorly cleared ball from Jairus Adira to crash it into the net.
In the 72nd minute however, Chemelil pushed back with a successful penalty kick by Amani Kyata after Tusker defender Collins Shivachi had handled the ball inside the box.
Nzoia Sugar 2-0 AFC Leopards (Mumias Sports Complex)
A defensive mix up in the third minute of the game saw AFC Leopards concede a simple goal as Nzoia’s Lawrence Juma collected the ball and punished them.
Brian Yakhama put the final nail in the coffin of Leopards’ short lived revival in the second minute of added time getting on the end of a swift counter attack to finish the job.
Posta Rangers 1-0 Kakamega Homeboyz (Narok)
Posta Rangers’ recovery continued handsomely. Kennedy Otieno decided this match coolly collecting a sumptuous cross from Titus Achesa to finish with aplomb.
The loss sees Kakamega Homeboyz drop to fifth position on the as surging Posta assume second position.
Sofapaka 0-0 Mathare United (Narok)
The result was a blow to Sofapaka’s ambitions of finishing second in 2017.
This was the second consecutive instance where Batoto ba Mungu had dropped points against a relegation battling team after their 2-1 loss to Western Stima two weeks ago.
The single point will however be taken with both hands by Mathare United as the desperately fight to evade relegation.
Thika United 1-0 Sony Sugar (Thika)
Nigerian import Onwudi Chibueze, who had been sidelined by injury for the better part of the second leg, came through with the decisive play of the match in the 18th minute from an assist by Eugene Mukangula.
The Nigerian was however ejected from the match early in the second half together with Sony defender Alfred Onyango after they physically clashed.
Ulinzi Stars 1-1 Kariobangi Sharks (Afraha)
Sharks benefited from an own goal in the 29th minute when Ibrahim Kitawi’s shot was deflected into the net by Ulinzi’s normally reliable defender Geoffrey Kokoyo.
The soldier made amends in the 40th minute via Samule Onyango who directed home Oliver Rutto’s corner kick.
Gor Mahia 2-1 Western Stima (Kasarani)
Western Stima had the audacity to go ahead against the league champions in waiting in the 17th minute courtesy of a penalty that was duly converted by former Mathare United midfielder Vincent Omumbo.
Francis Kahata netted a rare goal on 35 minutes to return Gor level.
Five minutes to the end of the first stanza, Wellington Ochieng headed in a free kick floated in by Ugandan import Godfrey Walusimbi to hand K’Ogalo the win.
