Jacques Tuyisenge header in the 73rd minute was all Gor Mahia needed to beat Wazito FC in a Round 10 match played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Wednesday 11th April.

Gor Mahia coach Dylan Kerr rested most regulars obviously because of the CAF Confederation Cup return leg tie against Supersport United set for next week and the team was made to sweat for the win.

Forwards Ephrem Guikan and Meddie Kagere missed several good goal scoring chances in the first half. The latter’s hard shot from the edge of the box hit the woodwork just before the breather.

Second half

Kerr introduced Tuyisenge for Lawrence Juma in the 64th minute, Boniface Omondi for Kevin Ade Omondi and it is these changes that bore fruit. Gor won a freekick on the left flank that Cercidy Okeyo swung in beautifully into the box, Tuyisenge rising high to head past Wazito custodian Philip Odhiambo.

Guikan would have doubled the lead in the 87th minute but his powerful header off a Boniface Omondi hit the post as Gor held on a late challenge by Wazito to scoop the crucial three points.

Standings

After the win, Gor has cut Mathare’s lead at the top of the log to just a point and have two games in hand while Wazito is 12th with 11 points having played 9 matches.
