Bandari FC beat Gor Mahia 2-1 in an exciting match played at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Tuesday 7th August.

Prior to the match, Gor Mahia had gone for 22 matches unbeaten but Bandari were on a good run as well and had vowed to put Gor Mahia to the sword – and they did. Dan Guya rose high to head home the opener in the 10th from a delightful corner kick by Joshua Oyoo.

Bandari doubled the lead in the 36th minute, mid-season acquisition Yema Mwana beating Shaban Odhoji with a fine strike after Wycliffe Ochomo flicked Felly Mulumba’s freekick.

Second half

Gor Mahia continued to press in search of the elusive goals but the Bandari backline marshalled by Mulumba, Bernard Odhiambo and the good goalkeeping by Farouk Shikalo stood the test of time. K’Ogalo brought in Innocent Wafula and Ephreim Guikan for George Odhiambo and Francis Mustafa respectively. They got a reprieve in the 77th minute when Jacques Tuyisenge pulled one back in the 77th minute after good spade work from Philemon Otieno.

Despite Gor’s constant knocks on the door, Bandari managed to hold on and bag the three maximum points. K’Ogalo remains on top of the log with 56 points from 23 matches while Bandari is second with 45 points having played 26 matches.
