Nine matches were played over the weekend as the SportPesa Premier League entered Round 20. Gor Mahia eased past Nzoia in Kisumu on Sunday to get to the 40 points mark while AFC Leopards’ resurgence continued with a well deserved win over Chemelil in Machakos on Saturday.

Saturday 16th June

Three matches were played on Saturday afternoon.

Mathare United 1-1 Vihiga United

Highly rated youngster Ahmed Ahmad opened the scoring for the Slum Boys in the 6th minute and Clifford Alwanga could have doubled the lead from the spot moments later but Barnabas Tiema saved his penalty. Dennis Wafula leveled the scores just two minutes after the break to ensure Vihiga leave Camp Toyoyo with a crucial point.

Zoo FC 1-1 Sony Sugar 

Isaac Kipyegon scored from the spot in the 20th minute to give Zoo the lead in a match played at the Green Stadium in Kericho but Meshack Karani continued with his fine form by scoring the equalizer at the half hours mark

AFC Leopards 2-0 Chemelil Sugar FC 

Ezekiel Odera scored a brace to ensure Ingwe register a routine win over Chemelil in a match played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Sunday 17th June 

Six matches were played on Sunday with Nakumatt registering the biggest win of the day at the Camp Toyoyo.

Nakumatt FC 6-1 Kakamega Homeboyz 

Nakumatt’s resurgence under new coach Medo Melis continued as they thrashed Kakamega Homeboyz 6-1 in an entertaining match that kicked off at 11AM.

Boniface Mukheke opened the scoring in the 1st minute and Tom Adwar doubled the lead at the hours mark. Andrew Waiswa reduced the deficit at the 3oth minute as the first half ended 2-1 in favour of the hosts. Kelvin Thairu made it 3-1 just after the break with a cool finish. Cornelius Juma scored a quick brace in the 65th and 71st minute to push the game beyond Homeboyz’s reach before goalkeeper Lucas Indeche scored a wonderful freekick two minutes to stoppage time.

Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 Posta Rangers 

Ebrima Sanneh came off the bench to rescue maximum points for Kariobangi Sharks as they beat Posta Rangers by a solitary goal in a match played at the Camp Toyoyo from 2PM.

Nzoia Sugar FC 1-3 Gor Mahia 

Reigning champions Gor Mahia beat Nzoia Sugar 3-1 in a match played at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu. Jacques Tuyisenge scored a double while Humphrey Mieno headed in one. Brian Otieno pulled one back for Nzoia in injury time but it was a little too late as Gor held on to get the three points and hit the 40 points mark.

Sofapaka 3-0 Thika United 

In the only live match of the day, Thika United woes continued as they suffered a humiliating defeat in the hands of Sofapaka at the Narok Stadium. The goals came in courtesy of new signing Pistone Mutamba, Kevin Kimani from the spot and Elli Asieche.

Ulinzi Stars 0-0 Bandari 

Ulinzi Stars and Bandari played to a barren draw in a match played at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru. The Soldiers have been not won in their last four fixtures, drawing two and losing the same number of matches. They lie 12th in the log with 30 points from 19 matches.

Tusker FC 1-1 Wazito FC

Tusker FC and Wazito played to a one-all draw in a match played at the Ruaraka Grounds from 3PM. Timothy Otieno opened the scoring minutes after the break with a cool finish and they held on until late into the second half when Justine Omary scored an own goal, directing David Oswe’s free kick into his own net.
