Nine matches will be played as the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) enters Round 9 this coming weekend.

The highlight of the weekend will be the 88th Mashemeji Derby that is set to be played at Kasarani on Sunday 10th November from 3pm. Gor Mahia beat AFC Leopards 2-0 and 3-1 respectively in the league last season and Ingwe are eager to turn the tables.

“We are ready and really pumped up for the derby. Gor Mahia has been beating us in recent years but we have been unlucky prior to the derbies due to injuries. This time however we have a fully fit squad and are looking forward to the game. We are going for a win and I think we have a good chance of getting the three points,” Ingwe team manager told KPL after the team’s training session at the KTTC Ground in Gigiri on Friday.

Gor Mahia coach Steven Polack, who will be in charge of his first Mashemeji Derby on Sunday, is also eager to garner the bragging rights. The team’s nine league matches unbeaten run was ended by Mathare United on Wednesday and the Briton says his charges are ready to show their might against Ingwe.

“I know how important this match is to the whole team – the players, fans, and management. Our preparations have been fantastic going into this match and the spirit within the team has improved. We have put all our issues behind and the focus is fully in winning the derby. I have been involved in derbies as a coach and as a player and I know the kind of atmosphere to expect – it is the type that should automatically inspire the players to give in their best,” Polack said on the sidelines of a training session on Friday at the Parklands Sports Club.

The game will be live on KTN News and our YouTube channel.
