Nine matches were played across different venues as Round 6 of the SportPesa Premier League culminated with Tusker FC at the top of the log. 

Saturday 5th January 

Sofapaka 2-3 Tusker FC

Tusker FC climbed to the summit of the table with a well-deserved 3-2 win over Sofapaka at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Sofapaka opened the scoring in the 37th minute through a brilliant solo effort by John Avire but Tusker rallied back to equalise through Timothy Otieno a minute after the restart. John Kamau gave the Brewers the lead in the 50th minute and Justine Omary made it 3-1 a few minutes later. Omary, however, scored one on his own net, the match ending 3-2 in favour 0f the Brewers.

Sunday 6th January 

KCB FC 1-1 Kariobangi Sharks

KCB FC’s search for the elusive first win continued as they rallied from a goal down to share spoils with Kariobangi Sharks in Machakos.

Vincent Wasambo gave Sharks the lead with a beautiful volley early in the second half but Benson Amianda’s header late in the game ensured the two sides settled for a draw.

Kakamega Homeboyz 0-1 Posta Rangers 

Ken Mutembei tapped in from a Danson Kago cross in the 84th minute to ensure Posta Rangers pick a crucial away win in Bukhungu against Kakamega Homeboyz. Mutembei had just replaced Dennis Ongeri less than a minute before scoring the all-important goal.

AFC Leopards SC 1-1 Nzoia Sugar FC

AFC Leopards and Nzoia Sugar settled for a 1-1 draw in another entertaining match played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Brian Marita connected well to an Isaac Kipyegon cross from the left to give Ingwe the lead in the 43rd minute but Bakari Randy’s stoppage-time equaliser meant the two teams shared the spoils.

Vihiga United 1-1 Mt Kenya United

Vihiga United and Mt Kenya United played to a 1-1 draw in an early kick-off match at the Bukhungu Stadium.

Moses Odhiambo scored a wonder goal to give the visitors an early lead in the 8th minute but second-half substitute Alex Imbusia levelled scores in the 69th minute.

Bandari FC 2-1 Sony Sugar FC

After a goalless first half, Bandari took the lead in the 68th minute as Dan Guya tapped in a sumptuous freekick by David Kingatua. Enock Agwanda levelled matters five minutes later after a swift counter-attack.  Bandari restored their lead in the 80th minute through Hassan Abdallah who curled in a beautiful corner kick into the net.

Ulinzi Stars 0-0 Zoo FC

In another match played at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru, Ulinzi Stars and Zoo FC settled for a barren draw.

Chemelil Sugar FC 0-1 Western Stima

David Omengo powerful header five minutes from time was all that high-flying Western Stima needed to overcome Chemelil Sugar FC in a match played at the Chemelil Sports Complex.

Mathare United 1-1 Gor Mahia

Mathare United and Gor Mahia played to a 1-1 draw in an entertaining match played at the Moi International Sports Center in Kasarani.

Jacques Tuyisenge opened the scoring for K’Ogalo in the 35th minute from the spot after Lawrence Juma was fouled in the box but the Slum Boys responded in similar fashion as Kevin Kimani beat Peter Odhiambo from the spot in the 56th minute to level matters after James Situma was fouled in the box.
