Gor Mahia midfielder Ernest Wendo has been voted the SportPesa Premier League Player of the Month.

Wendo was recognised for his contribution in helping K’Ogalo keep three clean sheets in crucial victories over rivals AFC Leopards, Nzoia Sugar and Chemelil Sugar that month.

Gor also drew with Thika United and Posta Rangers within that period, and his virtuoso performance saw him receive a national team call up.

“I’m so happy to be recognized after working so hard to be where I am. Playing at Gor Mahia makes one stronger and the coaches and teammates demand for better performance every game. I have to work hard and maintain the levels that won me this award and hopefully help my team win silverware.” Wendo said during the brief awards ceremony at Camp Toyoyo on Tuesday.

The former Bidco United midfielder was handed a Sh100,000 cash prize, a trophy as well as a 49-inch flat screen television.

He had been nominated alongside veteran Tusker custodian Duncan Ochieng, prolific scorers Kepha Aswani of Nakumatt and Stephen Waruru of Ulinzi Stars. Wendo attraced 23 votes in the poll conducted by the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya while his closest challenger Ochieng got 20 votes.
